The Organization
Chinmaya Vidyalayas are run under the auspices of the Central Chinmaya Mission Trust, Mumbai, in different parts of the country. The Vidyalaya in each place is administered by a Managing Committee, consisting of representatives of Chinmaya Mission Centers and eminent personalities and educationalists. This Vidyalaya is a unit of Chinmaya Mission Educational and Cultural Trust, (Greater Cochin) which also controls four other Vidyalayas – at Vaduthala, Tripunithura, Kottayam and Alappuzha.
The Concept
“Children are the architects of the future world. It is the most sacred task of parents as well as teachers to mould their lives in accordance with the sublime Indian tradition”. This was the vision of Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda, which led to the establishment of the Chinmaya Vidyalayas throughout the country. The primary objective of the institution is to bring about a harmonious blending between the traditional and progressive methods of education. Our endeavor is to “create free human being who are able in themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives”. The teaching – learning process in the Vidyalaya has been evolved in such a way that it helps the child to develop his thoughts, feelings and actions and create a harmony among these. Thus they would be able to attain mental health, adaptability and moral strength which would help them to face life with courage and fortitude. We aim to impart the best education with utmost care, love and understanding. Through this, we wish to instill in these blossoming buds, moral and ethical values, strength of character, discipline, national out-look and respect for all faiths .These traits would encourage them to emerge as true global citizens with a healthier and broader outlook on life. The campus now includes a full-fledged library, laboratories,KG and administration block. Expansion of the infrastructure is being planned each year.
History
In December 1991 Poojya Gurudev had an informal gathering of the managing committee of the Chinmaya Mission, Mattancherry. He expressed his desire to start a Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Mattancherry. In accordance with Poojya Gurudev’s vision, earnest efforts were taken by the members of the Mission resulting in the acquisition of the premises at Vadakkemadom, Mattancherry. The Vidyalaya was officially inaugurated with the Kinder Garten section on 22nd June 1995 by Br. Atma Chaithanya (Acharya, C S T K). At the initial stage the Vidyalaya had 30 students, 2 teachers and 2 aayahs. With the heavenly grace of God Almighty, the blessings of Poojya Gurudev and the holy guidance of Poojya Guruji Swamy Tejomayananda, the Vidyalaya has been growing from strength to strength. The graph of growth took a mighty ascend with the purchase of 6 ½ acres of land in Kalathra in Chellanam Panchayat(a backward area) in Western Kochi. The Vidyalaya officially shifted to the new premises on the pristine backwaters on the 17th of May, 2002 after its inauguration by Pujya Swami Tejomayananda. The Vidyalaya now boasts of classes from LKG to Class XII with a total strength of 1204 students, 67 dedicated and ever vigilant teachers and 11 loyal and committed non-teaching staff.
Curriculum
The Vidyalaya is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (Affiliation No. 930485). In accordance with the CBSE’s Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation, the Vidyalaya endeavors to provide holistic education to the students, which meets their physical, mental, emotional and intellectual growth. The students are given training in such varied activities like yoga, music, art and craft and contemporary and classical dance. The co-scholastic areas also include maintenance of electrical gadgets, book binding and hand embroidery. The spiritual well being of the students is ensured through Chinmaya Vision Programme, which includes a variety of activities like chanting of Holy Gita, celebration of various national festivals, mathru pooja, Gurupoornima etc. The modern era is the age of computers. To face the world with confidence and courage, the present generation needs to be made computer savvy. To cater to this need of the students, the Vidyalaya follows the Next Education Programme with interactive classes for classes I to XII. Advancement in technology have greatly revolutionized the teaching-learning process. Use of smart board technology promotes optimum results.
